New York Yankees legends Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were left furious after Wednesday night’s World Series defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees managed to force a Game 5 earlier this week after dropping behind 3-0 in the World Series. At one point, it looked like the Yankees would push the Dodgers into a sixth game, leading 5-0 before a fifth-inning collapse of epic proportions.

Star player Aaron Judge even dropped a fly ball which would’ve pushed the Yankees closer to victory and record a second consecutive victory in the Bronx and have the series at 2-3. The Dodgers ended up capitalizing and winning the game 7-6 and the series 4-1 to win their eighth franchise World Series.

Both Yankees head coach Aaron Boone and Judge admitted the result would sting for the foreseeable future. “This is going to sting forever. I’m heartbroken,” Boone admitted. “I think falling short in the World Series will stick with me until I die, probably,” Judge added.

“I think just like every other loss, those things don’t go away. There are battle scars along the way and hopefully when my career is over we’ve got a lot of battle scars but also a lot of victories along the way too.”

Jeter won five titles with the Yanks and Rodriguez the hero in 2009. Both were left furious by the Yankees’ performance. “I don’t know if I’ve ever quite seen an inning like this, especially in a World Series or postseason game,” Jeter said on FOX’s postgame show.

“The Yankees made some mistakes. You cannot make mistakes against a team like the Dodgers. In that particular inning, they gave them six outs. You just cannot make that many mistakes.”

“This is one of the greatest meltdowns that I’ve ever seen in 40 years,” added 2009 World Series hero Alex Rodriguez. Yankees fans appear to have had it with Boone.

Boone has been in charge of the Yankees for seven seasons and only failed to reach the playoffs just once in 2023. He’s in the final guaranteed year of his contract but the Yankees can retain him for 2025 via a club option.

Early reporting from SNY suggests the Yankees will retain Boone for the 2025 campaign. He’ll be looking to tighten up his roster in the offseason, especially with superstar Juan Soto hitting free agency and stating he’s open to all 30 MLB teams.
