Caroline Grace, the founder of Baby Kitten Rescue (in Los Angeles), rushed to a local shelter for three kittens needing urgent rescue. The shelter did not have the resources and overnight staff to provide the 24-hour care that the orphan kittens required.
“They sent a plea out to rescues to come get them by the end of the day. Baby Kitten Rescue answered the call,” Caroline shared with Love Meow.
The kittens, two calicos and one tuxedo, were very tiny, hungry, and covered in filth and fleas. At only two days old, the kittens had the odds stacked up against them. They huddled together constantly to keep each other comforted.
“It’s clear by the horrible state they were in that they had been without a mom (for a long time),” Caroline added.
The trio were immediately treated for a bacterial infection, and within 24 hours, they were starting to improve and their appetite soared.
Anna, the calico with a cute black nose, was the smallest kitten but had the biggest voice and a lot to say. Whenever it was feeding time, she would put her pipes to good use and insist on being the first to be catered to.
She discovered her purr motor at 4-5 days old and would rumble away nonstop.
After both of her siblings had opened their eyes, she was yet to see the world. “Anna didn’t start opening her eyes until 14 days old, and they were not fully open until 16 days old,” Caroline told Love Meow.
Anna was a late bloomer compared to her littermates, as she took her time to reach developmental milestones. Once she got a peek into her surroundings, her sass came out in full swing.
Anna the little sister turned out to be the feistiest and bravest kitten.
“She had the sassiest personality of the group from the beginning. She would yell at the top of her lungs for her as soon as she felt the incubator door open,” Caroline shared.
“She screams for her bottle, and then afterwards she immediately starts purring (the loudest purr of them all), and still has things to say mid-purr. She loves making biscuits while getting snuggles and kisses after each feeding.”
Anna may be the runt of the litter but what she lacks in size or weight, she makes up for in personality.
Now that they are 3.5 weeks old, the kittens have graduated from the incubator and moved into an upgraded suite with plenty of room to play and explore in.
“Sven is the sweetest tuxedo boy with the cutest little ‘milk dipped’ white chin. Elsa is the most gentle and mellow of the group. She has a soft meow and puppy dog eyes that just melt your heart,” Caroline told Love Meow.
Elsa has always been very close to Anna, snuggling with her sister, keeping her company, and showering her with licks and kisses.
They enjoy napping and having their arms around each other, like two peas in a pod.
