NFL analyst Terry Bradshaw once left his mom “disappointed” after he appeared naked on screen during a blockbuster movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker.

The 76-year-old is a household name across the generations having enjoyed a glittering football career from 1970 to 1983 before turning his talents to broadcasting. After hanging up his cleats following 14 storied campaigns with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he eventually took up his current role in the “Fox NFL Sunday” studio in 1994.

Bradshaw’s renown has also meant that he has appeared on the big screen on several occasions too, with his role in 2006’s “Failure to Launch” going down in Hollywood infamy. The former NFL stalwart appeared alongside Kathy Bates and Zooey Deschanel as Al, the parent of Matthew McConaughey’s character, turning heads during one scene in particular.

At one point in the romantic comedy, Bradshaw appears naked – with the veteran analsyst having reflected on this segment during an interview with Julian Edelman this year. He laughed: “Can I act? No. McConaughey was voted Sexiest Man Alive that year – but it was me who got naked in the movie. There’s a reason for that. I got a nice butt!”

Revealing what his mom thought of his on-screen antics, he also admitted she disapproved, saying: “I’m going, ‘No! Mom, you cannot go to the movie. I’m naked!’ She was so disappointed in me. ‘I can’t believe you did this!’ “I said ‘Mom, it’s just my butt’. You’re naked, but you’re never fully naked.”

“This was my last movie. I decided to go out with a bang! Nobody would expect me to get naked,” he continued, as he explained why he agreed to filming the scene. “I got a good image. I’m a wholesome guy. I just dropped my drawers.”

Speaking at the time about filming a naked scene, Bradshaw confessed that he was wracked with nerves before appearing in front of camera. He told IGN: “I was pretty nervous about that… I had no reservations about doing it, because nobody expects me to. I haven’t done a movie in 25 years.

“As a matter of fact, I’ve never done a movie. And I just thought, ‘You know what? Nobody will believe I’d do this. So, let’s just do it.’ And it was fun to do. I didn’t like putting a little […] sock on. I’d just rather be in the raw… That was a bit humiliating. Because, coming from the athletic background, being in the locker room with guys being naked is no big deal.”

Looking back at the experience of being on set, he added: “Movie making is very boring and very slow. Slow! And I had my manager with me and we played cards all day long. I am not much on down-time. I’m ADHD and I gotta be moving.”

Meanwhile, co-star Bates revealed she enjoyed working with the NFL fan favorite, saying: “This was so much fun. It’s exciting to work with someone of that stature, like Meryl Streep, which I’d love to do someday or Vanessa Redgrave, but this was just so much fun and relaxing and you know – mutual. It was just fun.”
