Moms rule, as Quincy Olivari learned when his mother, Courtney Olivari, saw ESPN using an incorrect photo of her son on his player profile and took matters into her own hands.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft, Olivari joined the LA Lakers on a two-way contract on October 19. It came at a time when he netted 11 points in the fourth quarter of last week’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks and 22 points in the Lakers’ game against the Golden State Warriors.

Because of his personal form, and his new deal with one of the most valuable franchises in sports, interest in the rookie skyrocketed. As such, it was probably only a matter of time before an eagle-eyed observer saw the mistake in ESPN’s system as The Worldwide Leader in Sports had seemingly put an image of 6-foot-6 shooting guard Dalton Knecht in 6-foot-3 Olivari’s place.

“Seems like ESPN doesn’t have a thumbnail pic for my son,” Courtney Olivari wrote on X this week. “Please allow me to help you out,” she added, attaching a promotional photo of her son, kitted out in Lakers gear.

As of Thursday, the thumbnail of Knecht remains next to Olivari’s ESPN player profile page on Google. However, it is unclear if it is an issue related to search more so than ESPN. This is because, when you click through to the ESPN website, Olivari himself — not Knecht — is there.

Olivari showed a keen sense of humor throughout the whole ordeal as he responded on X: “I don’t know, ma, looks pretty identical to me,” alongside a picture of his teammate, who is taller, and white.

Regardless, it is not the only intervention his mom has made. Courtney is a keen supporter of her son and, as a former cake artist, she used to hand-deliver cakes to the NBA on the TNT team. She has many photographs of herself with sports and media icon Shaquille O’Neal. She also took a young Quincy to deliver the cakes to the crew.

Last week, she publicly pitched NBA on TNT to bring her son back on set for “a full circle moment.” It is something the broadcaster will likely consider, not least because of the feel-good moment it would generate on TV, but also due to the link between Shaq, who spent eight seasons at the Lakers, and new recruit Olivari.

Moms indeed rule, and it’s now public knowledge that Quincy has a good one.
