The New York Jets are riding a four-game losing streak into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, and now they have a banged-up quarterback to add to their list of problems.
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Aaron Rodgers is listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice due to knee, ankle and hamstring injuries.
Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters that Rodgers’ hamstring “flared up” during the team’s 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday night, and it may have compromised his mobility on multiple plays.
New York has had the most tumultuous start to the 2024 season in the NFL. After opening the year with a 2-1 record, the team has shown inconsistencies on both sides of the ball on their way to falling to 2-5. Former head coach Robert Saleh was fired by team owner Woody Johnson five games into the season, and Ulbrich has yet to be able to right the ship.
Rodgers has not played up to his reputation as a four-time NFL MVP, as his seven interceptions are his most through seven games since 2010, his third season as the Green Bay Packers’ starting quarterback. The 40-year-old, who missed virtually the entire 2023 season with a torn Achilles, has been sacked 17 times and frequently looks uncomfortable behind an underperforming offensive line.
One of the few reasons for optimism this week is that the Jets are facing a 1-6 Patriots team that has lost each of its last six games. In New York’s 24-3 win over New England in Week 3, Rodgers showed good mobility as he escaped the pocket and completed throws downfield.
However, it appears that Rodgers will not be the same in this week’s matchup, so the struggles for the Jets could continue if he’s unable to find a groove.
