Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey missed practice Wednesday because he was performing his civic duty.
The Cowboys listed Aubrey among their non-participants in practice and cited jury duty as the reason for his absence:
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s Nick Harris reported Aubrey’s status for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers is unclear. He was chosen for a 12-member jury in a felony case where the defendant is facing a third-degree strangulation charge.
Per Harris, Aubrey “insisted on fulfilling his duty” when the Cowboys “tried to pull him away” from his jury service.
“It is expected that he will return on Thursday and Friday, and also that the former football-playing judge will work with Aubrey with his football schedule,” Harris wrote.
With the way this season has gone for the Cowboys, Aubrey’s services will be called upon at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, assuming he’s available.
The 29-year-old has appeared in all six of Dallas’ games. He’s 17-of-19 on field goals with a long of 65 yards.
Aubrey has connected on at least two field goals in every appearance so far. Three of Dallas’ games were decided by five points or fewer, too, so its starting kicker may have to step up in an important spot.
