LeBron James offered son Bronny some heartfelt advice as he reminded him that he will have to “earn every moment” after they made history by becoming the NBA’s first ever father-son duo.

The pair shared the court for three minutes after entering proceedings together during the second quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ league opener. In front of an expectant crowd at Cypto.com Arena, the Lakers eventually edged out a 110-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

One of the major talking points from the Lakers’ first game of the new campaign was the sight of LeBron and Bronny on court – with all eyes on the duo during their appearance together. Prior to earning a unique place in NBA history in the first half, the league’s all-time top scorer was on hand with some words of wisdom for his boy too.

Before they checked in for their landmark outing, LeBron issued some advice, saying: “Y’all ready? You see the intensity, right? Just play carefree, though,” before offering his former USC player son Bronny some pointers, adding: “Don’t worry about mistakes. Just go out and play hard.”

After their three minutes together in front of the capacity crowd in California, LeBron spoke of his pride, telling TNT: “It’s family. It’s always been family over everything. For me, I lost a lot of time because of this league, committing to this league, being on the road at times, missing a lot of his things, Bryce’s things, Zhuri’s things.

“So to be able to have this moment, where I’m working still, and I can work alongside my son, it’s one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever gotten from the man above and I’m gonna take full advantage of it.”

His son missed all of his field-goal attempts, while notching an offensive rebound on his NBA debut, as the elder James ended proceedings on 16 points from his 35-minute outing. Reflecting on a life-affirming appearance, the latter said: “This is not promised every day that you get an opportunity to play in this beautiful league.

“There’s only 450 of us. Understand it’s not given to you. You got to earn every moment,” he continued, as he offered more advice to his boy. “He knows that and he’s looking forward to the process of getting better and better every single day to be the player he ultimately wants to be. ‘I’m super proud of him. He’s my lifeline, that’s for sure.”

As for Bronny, he reflected: “[I] tried not to focus on everything that’s going on around me, and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up. But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.”
