Arnold Palmer’s daughter has spoken out about Donald Trump’s strange comments about her late father. At a campaign event at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Trump called Palmer “one of the greatest golfers in the world,” but then went on to make a bizarre remark about his anatomy.

“Arnold Palmer was all man,” Trump said. “And I say that with all due respect to women, and I love women. But this guy, this is a guy [who] was all man. This man was strong, and I refuse to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there, they said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable.'”

Palmer’s daughter, Peg Palmer Wears, told the Associated Press that while she wasn’t upset by Trump’s comments, she thought they were an odd way to honor her father’s memory.

“There’s nothing much to say. I’m not really upset,” she said. “I think it was a poor choice of approaches to remembering my father, but what are you going to do? ” Trump also praised Palmer’s ability to “electrify” a crowd at the campaign rally.

“If I had him here right now with me, this crowd would be going absolutely crazy,” he continued. “They’d say ‘Trump, get off the stage, we want Arnold Palmer to speak.’

“He would electrify a crowd, and he would go for shots that nobody else would do. And they were risky as hell, sometimes it wouldn’t work out, but usually it did with him.”

Unfortunately for Trump, the man who he clearly idolized may not have shared the same admiration for him. Peg Palmer Wears said that her father who passed away in 2016 was a firm believer in the Republican party, but she wasn’t convinced that he would be happy with the way things are going.

“My dad had no patience for people who demean other people in public,” she told The Sporting News in 2018. “He had no patience for people who are dishonest and cheat.

“My dad was disciplined. He wanted to be a good role model. He was appalled by Trump’s lack of civility and what he began to see as Trump’s lack of character.”
