Donald Trump made a splash at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the New York Jets on Sunday, just as a streaker stormed the field in his support, but he also tripped up online with a bit of a social media blunder.
In attendance for the Steelers’ commanding 37-15 triumph over the Jets at Acrisure Stadium during Sunday Night Football, Trump’s presence was highlighted when a daring streaker broke onto the gridiron brandishing a “Trump secure border/Kamala open border” sign.
Both the former president and the bare-skinned intruder were warmly received by the Steelers’ crowd. Yet, it was Trump’s next move on Truth Social and Instagram that really set tongues wagging – he shared an AI-generated photo showing himself in brawny form, donning a black-and-yellow Steelers jersey with the number 47, seemingly hinting at an ambition to reclaim the presidency as the 47th POTUS in 2024.

But the choice of jersey number led to some raised eyebrows since it historically belongs to Mel Blount, a Hall of Fame cornerback and five-time Pro Bowler who represented the Steelers for 14 seasons. To thicken the plot, Blount publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the top office, sparking some fans to ridicule Trump’s image choice online.
One user pointed out, “Whoever barfed this out of an AI image generator used Mel Blount’s retired #47. Mel Blount has endorsed Kamala Harris.”
“Mel Blount is probably very upset,” chimed in another fan, referring to the cherished status of Blount’s jersey. An additional commenter speculated about Blount’s reaction: “Mel Blount is probably so distraught about that pig wearing his number.”
A whopping 15 Pro Football Hall of Famers are rallying behind Harris, following the roll-out of her “Athletes for Harris” initiative aimed at galvanizing sports figures and coaches in the crucial weeks before election day. Legends like Blount, Emmitt Smith, Kellen Winslow, and others have joined forces with Harris’ campaign.
The drive is set to harness these events and sports icons to “organize, reach, and make its case to voters” using multiple tactics, such as appointing well-known athletes as co-chairs to spotlight the campaign. Even the basketball sphere offers its backing with 10 co-chairs on board, featuring none other than NBA icon Magic Johnson.

Magic Johnson expressed his deep trust in Harris, proclaiming, “I have known Vice President Harris for over 25 years, and you can count on her to deliver on what she says she is going to do. She’ll be a President for all people, no matter the race, language, sexual orientation, or party line.”
“She showed all of us – and showed the world – that she was ready to be President, how smart she is, and her plan for the country in that debate. We are not going backwards; we are moving forward. For all of the athletes out there, don’t be afraid to use your platforms – we need all of you to get involved.”
Underscoring the importance of spreading the word, Johnson urged, “Share this with your friends that Vice President Harris has an agenda that will move the country forward. The Magic Man is on board.”
One thing is clear: a significant number of Steelers fans were irked by Trump’s choice to wear the No. 47 jersey. The ex-president might also be miffed when he discovers that he unintentionally donned the jersey of a Harris supporter.
