Moses Moody is staying with the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors and Moody agreed to a three-year, $39 million extension that will keep the No. 14 pick of the 2021 draft in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Moody was previously set to play the 2024-25 season on the final year of his rookie contract at cap hit of $5.8 million, before becoming a restricted free agent in 2025.

Before Moody’s extension, Golden State had $199.3 million in total salary cap allocations for the 2024-25 season, per Spotrac. Here’s a look at the Golden State players with the highest salary cap hits for the upcoming season:

  • Stephen Curry: $55.8 million
  • Andrew Wiggins: $26.3 million
  • Draymond Green: $24.1 million
  • De’Anthony Melton: $12.8 million
  • Gary Payton II: $9.1 million
  • Kyle Anderson: $8.8 million
  • Buddy Hield: $8.8 million
  • Kevon Looney: $8 million
  • Jonathan Kuminga: $7.6 million

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported that the Warriors had “discussed the framework of a possible deal” with Moody’s camp in the week heading up to the Monday extension deadline.

The extension came after Slater reported Moody’s coaches and teammates were “raving” during the preseason about Moody’s offseason work on his “strength and decisiveness.”

“He’s playing great,” head coach Steve Kerr told reporters about Moody after the Warriors improved to 5-0 in the preseason with a Tuesday win over the Los Angeles Lakers. “He’s gotten so much better in so many ways. We’ve always loved his character, his work ethic, but I think this is the most confidence that he’s played with.

“He’s going to play a big role for us.”

Moody will now return to the Warriors to campaign for increased minutes during his fourth season with the team.

Last season Moody averaged a career-high 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds through 66 games, mostly off the bench, for the Warriors during his third NBA season.

Moody played 17.5 minutes per game as 2023 first-rounder Brandin Podziemski jumped him in the depth chart with a strong rookie season, sparking rumors that the Warriors could consider trading Moody during the offseason.

The Warriors extending Moody is a vote of confidence in his further development, although Moody will once more face competition for playing time against offseason acquisitions Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton.

When given the opportunity, Moody has come up clutch from behind the arc for the Warriors. After his strong preseason, Golden State could consider giving Moody more shooting opportunities in order to work on developing his potential as a three-and-D wing.

Through three seasons Moody has made 181 career regular-season appearances, including 23 starts, while averaging 5.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for the Warriors.

The 22-year-old will now hope to raise those averages while campaigning for a more consistent spot in the rotation next season.

Moody will likely serve as an important piece of the Warriors’ future alongside 22-year-old Jonathan Kuminga as Golden State prepares to continue the transition away from its 2022 championship roster. That change began in earnest this offseason with the departure of Klay Thompson for the Dallas Mavericks.
