Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Conor McDermott reportedly had his team-issued iPad, containing the Rams’ playbook and game footage, stolen from his car earlier this week. The theft occurred in a residential area where McDermott had parked, and local law enforcement is now actively investigating the situation, according to reports from TMZ.

The stolen iPad, which was an essential tool for McDermott to study the Rams’ playbook and review game footage, is part of the standard equipment issued to all NFL players. While the theft is concerning, the Rams have the ability to remotely wipe the device’s memory, ensuring that none of their game plans or future strategies fall into the wrong hands.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the theft according to TMZ, and there is no evidence to suggest that the theft was an attempt by another NFL team to gain a competitive edge.

McDermott, a seasoned NFL veteran, joined the Rams earlier this year after spending time with multiple teams in the AFC East.

Since entering the league in 2017, McDermott has played for the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills, making him one of the few players to have suited up for almost every team in the division, except for the Miami Dolphins. Despite his journeyman career, McDermott made a name for himself in 2021 when he caught a touchdown pass for the Jets in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking his only career reception and a highlight moment in his time with the team.

The Rams are currently struggling in the 2024 NFL season, with a disappointing 1-4 record heading into their bye week. Their slow start puts them near the bottom of the NFC, with only the Carolina Panthers holding a worse record in the conference.

Los Angeles is also one of six teams in the league with just one victory, joining the ranks of the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Cleveland Browns.

While McDermott’s stolen iPad won’t impact the Rams’ current standing or future game plans thanks to the team’s ability to secure its data, the situation adds another layer of frustration for a team looking to turn its season around.

The Rams are hoping to regroup during their bye week and improve their fortunes when they return to action, though the theft serves as an unexpected distraction for McDermott and the team.

As of now, police continue to investigate the theft, and fans will be watching to see if any further developments arise. In the meantime, McDermott and the Rams are focused on bouncing back from their rough start and climbing up the NFC standings.
