The NFL announced Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host Super Bowl LXII in 2028.
“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said. “… Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019.”
This will be the fourth time the city hosts the Super Bowl and the second one at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The next four installments of the annual spectacle are now mapped out. All roads lead to Caesars Superdome in New Orleans this season. From there, the Super Bowl will go to California in 2026 (Levi’s Stadium) and 2027 (SoFi Stadium) before heading to the Southeast.
The last Super Bowl in Atlanta saw the Patriots win the most recent of their six titles. New England ground out a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams with Tom Brady throwing for 262 yards and an interception. Julian Edelman was named the game’s MVP after catching 10 passes for 141 yards.
The clock is now ticking for the Atlanta Falcons to build a team that can contend for a Super Bowl during the 2027 season.
History won’t be on the franchise’s side. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020) and Los Angeles Rams (2021) are the only two teams to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy in their home stadium.
