After the New York Jets added one of the top receivers in the NFL by acquiring Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, fellow wideout Garrett Wilson believes it’s time for the team to turn the corner.
Wilson took to social media to post a short but urgent message, making it clear that the Jets need to bounce back from their current three-game losing streak:
The Jets fell to 2-4 with a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. A win would’ve given them a share of first place in the AFC East. The team’s three losses during this skid have come by a combined 10 points.
Adams’ arrival in New York comes after Wilson finally found his groove following his slow start to the season. He posted eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo, his second straight 100-yard game and third time reaching the end zone this year.
Still, the Jets have been mired by miscues by their receivers not named Wilson. Veteran wideout Allen Lazard is among the league leaders in dropped passes. Mike Williams, who is in his first year in New York, has struggled to get on the same page as veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Each of the team’s last two losses against the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills ended with interceptions thrown by Rodgers on passes intended for Williams.
Adding Adams gives Rodgers his favorite receiver of all time, as the two of them starred together with the Green Bay Packers and set multiple franchise records. While they haven’t played together since 2021, their connection should still be intact.
If Adams is able to make the impact expected of him, Wilson and the rest of the receivers will benefit from his presence and the Jets will have a strong chance to end their 13-year playoff drought.
