Speaking on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus compared Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris’ slide in the polls to golf star Rory McIlroy’s performance at the 2024 U.S. Open.
Priebus served as former President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff and is on a press circuit advocating for the former President to be elected once again. “She’s losing in the Sun Belt and she tried to recover by going on ‘The View’” which a lot of women watch,” Priebus told the panel.
“She went on ‘The View,’ we talked about it earlier and she wanted to clarify the two most important issues that are facing these two candidates, the economy and immigration, and she bombed like Rory at the U.S. Open.”

McIlroy is a four-time major winner but hasn’t captured a title since the 2014 Open Championship. The 2024 U.S. Open seemed like his best chance in a long time: the Northern Irishman held a two-shot lead with just a handful of holes remaining.
However, McIlroy bogeyed three times across the final five holes as American Bryson DeChambeau – who’s previously shown support for Donald Trump – stormed ahead to secure a late victory.
He took to Instagram following his runner-up finish to air out his thoughts in full: “‘Yesterday was a tough day, probably the toughest I’ve had in my nearly 17 years as a professional golfer.”

“Firstly, I’d like to congratulate Bryson. He is a worthy champion and exactly what professional golf needs right now. I think we can all agree on that.
“As I reflect on my week, I’ll rue a few things over the course of the tournament, mostly the 2 missed putts on 16 and 18 on the final day. But, as I always try to do, I’ll look at the positives of the week that far outweigh the negatives.”
McIlroy’s U.S. Open collapse came in the face of a public divorce from his longtime partner Erica Stoll. The pair split after revealing “irreconcilable differences”, but they soon called off their divorce.
During the same segment on ABC, Priebus also chastised Harris and the Democratic party’s language towards Trump. “The rhetoric that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy was a Democrat talking point and the other talking point now is that he wants to monitor women’s pregnancies, that Trump said if he doesn’t win there’s going to be a bloodbath,” Priebus said.
“So look, with all of this stuff, the one thing that I do agree is that the rhetoric should calm down. But it’s a part of the Democrat tactic to win this election is to paint Donald Trump as a threat to the very public republic that we live in.”
