Sam Mitchell was involved in an awkward encounter with NBA TV co-host Chris Miles after the former Minnesota Timberwolves star appeared to leak his colleague’s address live on air.
Miles and Mitchell were the face of Friday’s coverage, and discussion in the studio quickly turned towards the recognition of coaches. Miles asked Mitchell about the fact that Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr did not receive a gold medal for leading Team USA to victory at the Olympic Games this summer.
Former NBA star Mitchell provided his insight, responding: “I guess it just tells you [in] international [play] how they value coaches – not at all,’ with a laugh.

Appearing to poke the bear, Miles then joked about Mitchell’s time as coach of the Toronto Raptors, who the 61-year-old took charge of between 2004 and 2008. “I’m surprised coaches get a paycheck for this show. Maybe you should do this pro bono, my friend,” the host commented.
Unsurprisingly, Mitchell left unimpressed with his colleague’s comments, claiming that his salary was in fact ‘pretty close’ to pro bono. Continuing to bite back at Miles, the former Raptors coach also accused his co-host of ‘boasting’ about his salary, and his number of homes, before threatening to reveal one of his addresses.
“I’m sorry, did you rent your beach house out down in Florida during the Hurricane?… How about your townhouse in Buckhead, [Georgia]?” Mitchell said with the NBA TV cameras still rolling. He then went on: “I know what you have and where you live young fella, so you need to stop…

“You gotta stop messing with me on national TV… Do I need to give out the address? Because you’re not at home right now.” Keen to change the subject, Miles then diverted conversation towards the Portland Trail Blazers pre-season match-up with the Los Angeles Clippers.
After a brief discussion, though, Mitchell returned to the former subject, before going on to read out Miles’ Florida address live on air. Fans watching on at home could not believe what they were hearing, with the former Timberwolves star more than happy to get personal in the awkward exchange.
Taking to social media, one fan tweeted on X: “Bro forgot where he was,” before a second went on to add: “Don’t joke about a man and his money. This probably [not] the first time either.” A third fan posted: “Wait he actually said it!?” a fourth commented: “OK WHAT IS HAPPENING.”
Mitchell is an NBA TV regular, but some fans believe he could well have put his job in jeopardy with his jibe at his co-host. “He let his emotions get the best of him. He has been on NBA TV for a while but this is completely unacceptable and he should be fired,” one wrote, before another posted: “Wow, that’s a shocking breach of trust and professionalism!”
