Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton may not be returning to the NFL, but fans will still see plenty of him this fall. Newton has signed on as a weekly guest on ESPN’s popular show “First Take,” according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Joining a rotating cast that includes former NFL star Shannon Sharpe and renowned radio personality Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, Newton is poised to bring his unique perspective to the show’s high-energy NFL debates, particularly when facing off with the show’s anchor, Stephen A. Smith.

Newton’s addition to “First Take” is being hailed as a major win for ESPN.

David Roberts, ESPN’s executive editor of sports news and entertainment, expressed excitement about bringing the former MVP onboard, praising Newton for his magnetic presence. “Cam Newton’s addition to First Take brings an electrifying presence, enhancing our roster of top-tier personalities,” Roberts said. “His dynamic charisma, combined with the high-profile debates alongside Stephen A. Smith, will create compelling, must-watch television for fans.”

As Newton transitions into this new role, he’s clearly enthusiastic about taking on the challenge of a media career. Known for his outspoken nature and high-energy style, the former quarterback is ready to apply the same passion he brought to the gridiron to the set of First Take. “I’ve always brought passion and energy into everything I do, and that won’t change at ESPN,” Newton said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to share my perspective and go toe-to-toe with the best in the business. Fans can expect the same intensity I brought to the field, along with real talk, bold takes, and good fun.”

Newton’s NFL career spanned from 2011 to 2021, during which he earned Pro Bowl honors three times, was named the NFL MVP in 2015, and led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance. Known for his dual-threat capabilities, he finished his career with over 32,000 passing yards, more than 5,600 rushing yards, and a total of 269 touchdowns.

His in-depth knowledge of the game and firsthand experience will undoubtedly provide fresh insight to the First Take panel.

The move to ESPN comes as a new chapter in Newton’s career, following his recent hiatus from the NFL. Though there were murmurs about a potential comeback, Newton has shifted his focus toward television, embracing the opportunity to contribute to football discussions from the broadcast booth rather than the field.

His experience as a former No. 1 overall pick and one of the most dynamic quarterbacks of his generation positions him as a strong addition to the show’s lineup.

Newton will make his First Take debut this Friday, broadcasting live from Tennessee State University, further adding to the excitement surrounding his arrival.

Fans are eager to see how Newton, known for his bold style and unfiltered opinions, will interact with the equally passionate Stephen A. Smith, as well as how he will handle heated debates on various NFL topics.

While Newton’s playing days may be behind him, his presence in the football world remains as strong as ever. With his sharp football acumen, infectious energy, and no-nonsense approach, Newton is set to make waves in sports media as part of First Take’s star-studded lineup.
