Ian Poulter bunkered down at his Florida home on Wednesday night as the Sunshine State prepared itself to be battered by Hurricane Milton.
Heading into Wednesday night, Hurricane Milton was tipped to be one of the most devastating hurricanes in Florida’s history, originally being labeled a Category 5. Milton posed a significant threat to life, with many taking a slow vehicle crawl to safety down Floridian highways before the brunt of the hurricane was due to hit.
As the day progressed, Milton was downgraded to a Category 3, and later all the way down to 1 – but Florida still felt the effects of its devastation. Over 3 million homes were left without power. Via weather-tracking footage, Milton appeared to mostly collapse before hitting Florida shores.
LIV Golf star Poulter showed his Instagram followers what he saw from his Florida home, which is just a stone’s throw away from Lake Nona Golf and Country Club, and its 18-hole championship course. The Englishman showed flooding on the green below his property from his decking, as well as the golf course covered in water.
Poulter did share a picture from the inside of his home, with one leak coming through one of his doors. “Leak No. 1 of the night. [Would] be a huge result if this is all we have,” Poulter wrote.
Poulter’s dog, Geno, appeared to be the calmest in the house, snoozing on his owner into the early hours of the morning on the East Coast. “Dogs rally aren’t bothered at all about Milton. [We are] so lucky to have the generator, we lost power only a short time ago. But Geno is fully up and running,” Poulter added.
In the morning, Poulter hailed his generator. Sharing a video to Instagram, he wrote: “Now this thing is a game changer. I’m loving you Generac. Doesn’t get used much at all but when you need her she’s good.”

On the course, despite defecting to LIV Golf last year and resigning from the DP World Tour to avoid paying fines, Poulter still has hopes of captaining Europe in a future Ryder Cup. However, Poulter, and others, could miss out on participation for not earning enough points to be eligible for selection.
Jon Rahm, who’s LIV Golf’s current champion, having won the title in his debut season, is facing a race against time to qualify having returned to European competition following the breakaway tour’s conclusion. Rory McIlroy says that due to Poulter’s decision to resign from the DP World Tour, his chances of being captain or competing in the Ryder Cup, are significantly slimmer.
“I just think with the current state of where everything is, you need someone that’s around and showing their face as much as they can,” said McIlroy. “Right now, that honestly just can’t be them because they are elsewhere.”
