Damian Lillard enjoyed a lighthearted moment during the Milwaukee Bucks’ media day on Monday, reminiscing about a viral incident involving rapper GloRilla. When asked about GloRilla’s public interest in him during NBA All-Star weekend, Lillard couldn’t help but chuckle.
The reporter asked, “Are you giving that any kind of action?” to which Lillard responded humorously, “I’m weak. That is hilarious. Naw… you know, I keep my personal life personal and I let it be that. I respect her as an artist. We know each other. She’s an artist. I’m an artist. But as far as anything goes, it ain’t nothing going on. That’s what I can tell you.”
Lillard, who also raps under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A., navigated the playful moment with ease, and even a Bucks staffer joined in on the laughter. One reporter even quoted a line from GloRilla’s song “TGIF,” adding to the fun atmosphere.
This amusing exchange traces back to earlier this year during the NBA All-Star festivities. GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, had shared a photo with Lillard and tweeted, “Whoever she is can’t whoop me so I really dgaf,” stirring speculation about a possible romantic link.
Though Lillard refrained from commenting on the matter when approached by TMZ in March, GloRilla addressed it during an April appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. When asked if her pursuit of Lillard was like “the most Steph Curry shot,” she humorously responded, “The half-court shot? At the end of the day, the day gon’ end.”
The timing of GloRilla’s interest came soon after Lillard filed for divorce from his wife, Kay’La, in October 2023, following two years of marriage. The couple shares three children: 5-year-old Damian Jr. and 3-year-old twins, daughter Kali and son Kalii. This filing came just days after Lillard’s significant trade from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks, marking the end of his 11-year tenure in Portland.
In the wake of their split, Kay’La even commented on the viral moment, sharing GloRilla’s mugshot after her arrest for DUI with the caption “FreeGloLillard” and a laughing emoji, indicating she wasn’t taking it too seriously.
While the media day brought some lighthearted moments, Lillard is now focused on his new journey with the Bucks. With the season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 23 approaching, expectations are high for Lillard, especially alongside superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. As he adapts to life in Milwaukee, it’s clear Lillard is handling both the basketball excitement and off-court buzz with a good sense of humor.
