Netflix is still on the hunt for the perfect NFL broadcast duo after Fox Sports rejected their request to hire Tom Brady.
Just months after the 47-year-old former NFL star made headlines with a comedy roast on the streaming platform, The New York Post reported that Brady, alongside his Fox Sports colleague Kevin Burkhardt, was Netflix’s top choice for their upcoming NFL debut. Back in May, The Wall Street Journal revealed that Netflix had secured the rights to two NFL games on Christmas Day 2024: the Chiefs vs. Steelers and the Ravens vs. Texans, for a staggering $150 million.
However, on September 24, the Post reported that Fox Sports deemed Brady off-limits when Netflix approached them about hiring him for the Christmas Day games.
As a result, Netflix is now considering other talent, including Ian and Noah Eagle, Greg Olsen, and Nate Burleson, although no deals have been finalized yet. Ian, 55, is the father of 27-year-old Noah, who has garnered attention for his play-by-play commentary. Noah recently impressed networks with his calls for NBC during the 2024 Paris Olympics and has served as the radio voice for the Los Angeles Clippers. He has also provided commentary for the Super Bowl on Nickelodeon for consecutive years.
Brady made his broadcast debut for Fox Sports on September 8, receiving mixed reviews. Critics noted that he seemed to struggle at times, even burping during the first quarter of the Dallas Cowboys’ 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, as reported by Sports Illustrated.
“I’m learning a lot, believe me,” Brady chuckled near the end of the game when Burkhardt joked about his earlier prediction of a low-scoring game. Burkhardt replied, “Well, Tom Brady is even wrong once in a while. How about that?”
