The Minnesota Lynx are just one win away from reaching the WNBA Finals after beating the Connecticut Sun on the road to take a 2-1 series lead, delighting head coach Cheryl Reeve.

The Lynx dominated from start to finish, with Minnesota forward Napheesa Collier scoring 26 points and recording 12 rebounds. Courtney Williams also had an exceptional game with 16 points and 8 assists, while Kayla McBride was instrumental as expected.

Minnesota now has a chance to ice the series and book its place in the WNBA Finals on Sunday, or failing that host the Sun back home in a decisive Game 5 on Tuesday. The winner of the Lynx-Sun series will face either the Las Vegas Aces or New York Liberty in the Finals.

The Lynx-Sun series has been flipped on its head after Connecticut secured a 73-70 victory in Game 1, which saw the players confronted by Reeve near the locker rooms. According to The Athletic, Reeve confronted the Sun players after being upset with their celebrations in Minnesota.

The incident occurred while walking to the locker rooms, with one source claiming that Reeve “ran up” on the Sun players, and security was called to resolve the situation. Game 1 had a dramatic ending as it went down to the final possession after Lynx forward Collier missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game with one-second remaining.

The missed attempt led to wild celebrations, and Sun star Alyssa Thomas was pumped up as she screamed on the court and flexed as she went over to the sideline. The WNBA is reportedly aware of the incident involving Reeve but is yet to comment.

After that game, Sun head coach Stephanie White defended her players, claiming that the plan was always to be difficult when playing on the road. “We had to be disruptive,” White said. “We had to try to force them into uncomfortable shots and understand that they’re going to make uncomfortable shots, and when they did, we didn’t let that get us down.”

Reeve understood Connecticut’s assignment and appeared to show respect to the Sun when cooling off before her post-game interview. Following the Game 1 defeat, Reeve told reporters: “The further you go in the playoffs, the harder it gets.

“The team you’re playing against is obviously here for a reason because they’re really good. We’re here because we’re really good. And now it’s two teams going back and forth, not going to make anything easy, and then it’s just about players finding a way to make a play.”

There was also some bad blood heading into this series, as the Lynx have been eliminated by the Sun in each of the previous two seasons. This time, Minnesota and the four-time Coach of the Year has the chance to end that run.
