Angel Reese bet Shaquille O’Neal a staggering $100,000 that he would not be able to make a free throw – only for the NBA legend to savagely sink his shot seconds later.

The pair both share collegiate ties with LSU and enjoy a close friendship, with Chicago Sky rookie Reese even referring to the former Los Angeles Lakers icon as “uncle”. It seems that they are able to share a joke at each other’s expense too, with the WNBA ace seemingly making fun of O’Neal’s notoriously poor record in terms of free throws during his career.

The Hall of Famer, who was an NBA champion on four occasions as well as the league’s MVP in 2000, had an average of 52.7 percent when it comes to free throws across his 19-year career. Seemingly referring to this less celebrated aspect of the retired star’s game, Reese wagered a six-figure sum that her mentor would miss as they played basketball in the gym.

The Sky fan favorite was clearly confident that O’Neal would miss as she said: “$100,000 if you make this shot,” with this prompting the former Miami Heat superstar showed his coolness under pressure as he made the shot from 15ft – leaving Reese stunned in the process.

The WNBA starlet is coming off the back of a successful maiden season in the professional, having penned a $324,383 deal for the next four with her current employers at the start of the term. Admitting defeat in her bet with Shaq, she captioned the video: “I guess I owe him 100K.”

Elsewhere, Reese has revealed her sorrow after head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was relieved of her duties by the Sky after the team failed to make the playoffs. In an emotional statement on the matter, the power forward said: “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life.

“You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever.”

Reese added: “I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but I’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
