Former NFL quarterback and social activist Colin Kaepernick took a break from his usual routine to catch some exciting WNBA playoff action in New York City. Kaepernick made his way to the Barclays Center on Tuesday night to watch Game 2 of the semifinal series between the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty.
Kaepernick, who has been a significant figure both on and off the field since his final NFL season in 2016, was in attendance as the Liberty sought to extend their momentum after winning Game 1, thanks to stellar performances from stars Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart.
During the second half of the game, Kaepernick was shown on the Barclays Center’s big screen, and the crowd erupted in applause.
The former quarterback was introduced as a “former quarterback and activist,” and the warm reception highlighted how much his presence still resonates with fans. Despite not having played in the NFL for several years, Kaepernick remains an influential figure in both sports and social justice circles.

In recent months, Kaepernick has also expressed interest in competing in the 2028 Summer Olympics, particularly in the flag football event, which will be making its debut.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he shared his enthusiasm for the potential opportunity to represent Team USA: “We’re going to work on some things, see if we can make it in there, but would love to be out there,” he said. Although it’s too early to know whether Kaepernick will actually compete in the Olympics, the possibility has sparked excitement among his supporters.
Kaepernick’s NFL career, while cut short due to his activism and subsequent absence from the league, was marked by impressive achievements.
Over his six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, he accumulated 12,271 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. He also showcased his athleticism with 2,300 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, becoming one of the most dynamic quarterbacks of his era.
For now, Kaepernick seems content enjoying other sports, including supporting the WNBA during their thrilling playoff run. While his football future remains uncertain, his impact on the world of sports and social justice continues to be felt.
