After a crucial interception and a Heisman pose celebration in the end zone, all eyes turned to Travis Hunter and his conceivable hunt for the Heisman Trophy. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado quarterback, and Hunter’s teammate said that Travis easily deserves the award over any player in the nation.

“I mean, I feel like Trav deserves it, you know?” Sanders said on his podcast. “He is the best player in college football—not one of the best. He is the best player in college football, and I think a lot of people take him for granted and what he’s able to do.”

Sanders pointed out how many college football analysts doubt Hunter, concentrating on what they think he can’t do instead of what he can. “A lot of people tell him what he can’t do, which is wrong. I don’t believe in that personally,” he continued. “He’s going in each year, drive after drive, play after play, proving himself every game.”

For Sanders, Hunter’s ability to consistently perform at a high level shouldn’t be a surprise anymore following last year’s performance. “At this point, you should already expect that from Trav,” Sanders stressed. “That’s why I knew Trav always had greatness in him, and each and every game, he’s able to showcase it in different ways.”

Hunter has impressed on both sides of the ball through the season’s first four games. On offense, he’s caught 47 passes for 561 yards and six touchdowns. His yard total is the fifth highest in the nation.

Defensively, the two-way player has added a forced fumble, 11 tackles, and two interceptions, good for 14th in college football. His ability to impact the game as both a wide receiver and cornerback solidifies his Heisman case as discussions online continue to question whether he can play both positions at the professional level.

Hunter’s greatness is also defined by NFL analysts projecting him as the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr said that Hunter would not lose the top spot throughout the many versions of his altering mock draft leading up to draft night.

“He has been No. 1 on my Big Board all season, and he’s not going anywhere. The hand-eye coordination, ball skills and quickness are all outstanding,” said Kiper. “And the way he thinks about the game continues to catch my attention. This is a guy who has played essentially the entire game every week, yet he’s still so plugged in that he’s out there counting how many guys are on the field on punt plays.”

In Colorado’s 31-26 win over North Dakota State, Hunter played 55 snaps on offense and 69 on defense and only missed four snaps the entire game. His head coach, Deion Sanders, has been clear in his support of Hunter’s dual-role abilities, stating, “He would never prevent his player from showcasing his talents on both sides of the ball.
