In his adventures, there are a very few things that Tom Hudson hasn’t experienced. This famous sailboat captain and travel addict dedicated his life to exploring continents and crossing oceans in all kinds of ways.
However, when he decided to take a canoeing trip on a river one day, he could have never imagined that it would be unique.
Hudson paddled across the river, soaking up all the beauty around him when he heard faint cries coming from the shore.
When he took a closer look, he was left shocked to the core!
A Truly Shocking Sight
At first, Hudson couldn’t determine what was causing the cries. He paddled a little closer to the shore to get a better look when something caught his eye.
Suddenly, he was overwhelmed with shock.
There it was – a white, furry creature lying deep in the mud right next to a huge log.
Hudson didn’t think twice. He immediately approached the animal and realized that it was a huge Great Pyrenees. The dog was trapped in the mud and couldn’t move at all.
“He doesn’t look okay. I can’t see anyone. There’s no tracks. He’s covered in mud… he seems to be crying,” Hudson says in the YouTube video.
To help him, Hudson removed the log that was pressing down on the canine’s body, then did everything in his power to get this helpless furball out of the mud.
The entire rescue was quite challenging, especially the next part.
After he finally managed to take the dog out, he slowly loaded it into his canoe and paddled away. It took sweat and immense strength, but Hudson finally saved the dog, and he couldn’t be happier!
After paddling a few hundred feet away from the rescue spot, Hudson spotted a dock and a nearby house.
He immediately decided to stop there, hoping it could be the dog’s home.
“I hope this is your home,” he said to the dog.
Trusting his instincts turned out to be the right decision, as docking there and ringing that doorbell became the best choice he could make!
It Was Ivy’s Lucky Day
Upon hearing Hudson’s rescue story, the man immediately rushed over to the dock to see the dog – recognizing his 14-year-old Great Pyrenees named Ivy.
According to the owner, she’d been missing for two whole days from her home.
Despite all the efforts, he and his family were unable to track her down. Apparently, being stuck in the mud in the inaccessible area, Ivy lost all her strength, and the only thing she could do was wait.
Seeing this poor girl reunite with her dad was truly heartwarming. Hudson even stuck around to help her family clean Ivy’s fur and give her a nice bath in the pool.
After that, the family invited this giant-hearted man to stay the night in their home and continue his canoeing adventure early in the morning.
After making this unexpected friendship, Hudson couldn’t be more grateful for finding Ivy and safely bringing her back to her family.
“They were very happy to get their dog back. It’s a 14-year-old Pyrenees. It’s been in the family for a long time. The state it was in I feel like it wouldn’t have lasted another day, so I’m really happy to find it,” Tom concludes in the video.
Leaving her traumatic experience behind, Ivy will continue to enjoy her golden years surrounded by her family and, hopefully, stay away from trouble!
