The scene was quickly captured by photographer Biplab Hazra in Bishnupur, eastern India.
The image shows a mother elephant and a baby elephant trying to escape from the onslaught of fireballs by locals.
According to one report, deforestation has led elephants to stray into inhabited areas.
To prevent elephants from destroying and damaging their property, people used fire sticks and batons to chase and beat them. When they saw the elephants, they threw fireballs at them to scare them away.
There are many elephant tracks running in the residential area. I am trying to spread these photos to the community to increase awareness of this issue .”
The raging deforestation causes the habitat of wildlife to shrink, and they often go wrongly into human settlements.
Last year, a video of a man being trampled to death by a wild elephant in Sri Lanka also caused a stir on social media.
The video shows, when the man’s car was parked in Kataragama, near Yala National Park, he jumped out of the car, trying to stop the elephant by hypnotizing it.
However, his “tricks” failed. The large animal turned, ran towards the man, knocking him to the ground as he tried to run away.
